On March 12, we marked the 44th National Tree-Planting Day. Despite the lingering chill of early spring and a light, drizzling rain, the riverbank in Zhuangzi Village, Longju Town, Dongying District, was abuzz with activity as officials from municipal government agencies gathered to plant trees.

The Party branch of Shandong Weima organized a group of Party members and active individuals to enthusiastically respond to the initiative launched by the Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning—“The banks of the Yellow River are our home; let’s plant a tree for our hometown, work together with government and enterprises to build a beautiful homeland, and join hands to protect our green mountains and clear waters”—and joined the bureau’s volunteer team in a tree-planting activity.

At the tree-planting site, red flags fluttered and banners were proudly displayed. Braving the biting cold, everyone wielded shovels to dig holes and transplant saplings, working together to green their hometown. Groups of three or five collaborated seamlessly, meticulously carrying out every step—from digging pits and mounding soil to planting and firmly packing down the roots—creating a vibrant, bustling scene of labor. Thanks to their coordinated efforts, one sapling after another stood tall and full of life on the Yellow River floodplain.

This tree-planting event has not only heightened public awareness of afforestation and greening, but also strengthened people’s commitment to caring for and participating in ecological conservation and building a beautiful homeland. Moreover, it has deepened understanding of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s vision that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets,” that ecological priority and green development must be upheld, that efforts should be focused on strengthening ecological protection and governance, ensuring the long-term stability and safety of the Yellow River, and promoting high-quality development across the entire river basin—so that the Yellow River may truly become a river of happiness that benefits the people.
